Stop guessing when to water and start measuring with the Westland Digital Moisture Meter, a battery-powered soil moisture testing tool for indoor and outdoor plants. Designed to check moisture levels at root level, this handy meter helps prevent the two most common plant-care problems — overwatering and underwatering — by giving you a clear digital reading of how wet the soil really is below the surface.

Ideal for houseplants, window boxes, patio tubs, hanging baskets, and small container gardens, the Westland Moisture Meter takes the guesswork out of routine watering. Easy to read with a clear digital output, it removes the need for poking, lifting, or sticking your finger into compost — simply insert the probe and check the display. Comes complete with batteries, an instruction leaflet, a cleaning pad, and a detailed watering guide covering over 150 common plant types.

Powered by included batteries with a built-in automatic shut-off after around two minutes of inactivity, this compact meter is ready to use straight from the box. Wipe the probe clean between readings with the included pad and store indoors when not in use — designed for accurate spot readings rather than permanent installation in soil.

How to Use

  • Switch on: Press the power button to turn the meter on and off.
  • Clean the probe: Before each session, gently wipe the entire probe 2–3 times with the included cleaning pad.
  • Insert into soil: Push the probe vertically into the pot, halfway between the edge of the container and the plant stem. Probe about ½ to ¾ of the way down from the surface; shallower in small pots, deeper in large ones.
  • Take readings: Note the meter reading once the LCD display remains constant for about 4–6 seconds. Take at least two readings to confirm, as soil moisture can vary and probing naturally aerates the soil.
  • Remove and clean: Remove the probe and wipe clean with a soft cloth or tissue before storing.
  • Storage: Do not leave the probe in contact with moisture or stored in soil — designed for spot readings only.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Westland Moisture Meter work?
The meter uses a metal probe that you insert into the soil. The probe measures the moisture level at root depth and shows a digital reading on the LCD display, taking the guesswork out of when to water your plants.

Are batteries included?
Yes. The meter comes with batteries included, so it's ready to use straight out of the box.

Can I leave the probe in the soil permanently?
No. The probe is designed for spot readings only and should be removed and cleaned after each use. Do not store the meter with the probe in soil or in contact with moisture, as this will damage the probe and affect accuracy.

Which plants is it suitable for?
The meter is ideal for any plant where accurate watering matters — particularly houseplants, succulents, herbs, window boxes, patio tubs, and hanging baskets. The included watering guide covers over 150 common plant types and their specific moisture needs.

How accurate is the reading?
The meter gives reliable readings when used correctly. We recommend taking at least two readings in different spots to confirm, as soil moisture can vary within a single pot. Probing also gently aerates the soil, which is beneficial for the plant.

Does it have an automatic shut-off?
Yes. The meter automatically switches off after around two minutes of inactivity to preserve battery life. Press the power button to restart it for another reading session.
