Iris Katharine Hodgkin is a dwarf spring flowering iris with pale blue flowers, deep blue veining and creamy yellow markings at the base of the petals. The flowers appear early in the year, usually from February to March, bringing colour to pots, patios and the front of borders before many taller spring bulbs are in flower.
This variety grows to around 15cm tall while flowering, with slender grey green leaves that can stretch taller before fading back in late spring. It is a reliable, scented iris and has received the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit.
Plant from September to December in moist but well drained soil. It will grow in full sun or partial shade, and looks best when planted in groups for a stronger early spring display.
