The Henry Bell Sterling 3-in-1 Squirrel Proof Feeder is an innovative, versatile bird feeder from the premium Sterling Collection that offers three feeding ports in a single unit — catering for seed mixes, peanuts, and fat balls all at once. Encased within a decorative silver metal cage, it is designed to deter even the most persistent squirrels whilst remaining attractive in any garden setting.
Ideal for gardeners who want to attract a wide variety of UK garden birds without the hassle of multiple separate feeders, the 3-in-1 design means more bird species can feed simultaneously. The seed port draws in finches, sparrows, and tits; the peanut port attracts nuthatches, great tits, and woodpeckers; and the fat ball port brings in robins, starlings, and wrens.
The feeder is easy to clean and refill, and comes supplied with a hanging wire so it is ready to use straight away. The large hook makes it simple to hang from a feeding station, branch, or bracket. The cage mechanism works by allowing small birds through the gaps whilst blocking the bulk of squirrels and larger corvids from reaching the food inside.
How does the squirrel-proof cage work?
The outer metal cage surrounds the feeder ports with gaps sized to allow small garden birds to feed freely whilst blocking squirrels, which are too large to get through. This protects your bird food from being stolen and keeps the feeding area safe for smaller birds that may otherwise be scared away by squirrels.
What birds does this feeder attract?
The three ports attract a broad range of common UK garden birds. The seed port draws finches, sparrows, blue tits, and greenfinches; the peanut port attracts nuthatches, great tits, and woodpeckers; and the fat ball port is popular with robins, starlings, wrens, and coal tits. Using all three ports together makes this one of the most versatile feeders available.
What food can I put in each port?
The feeder has three dedicated ports: one for loose seed mixes, one for peanuts, and one for standard fat balls (approx. 90g). Henry Bell recommend using their own Superior Seed Mix, peanuts, and fat balls for best results, but any high-quality wild bird food in the correct format will work.
Is this feeder easy to clean?
Yes. The feeder is designed for easy cleaning and refilling. Henry Bell recommend cleaning bird feeders at least every two weeks to prevent the build-up of bacteria and mould, which can be harmful to wild birds. Use warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and allow to dry fully before refilling.
Where is the best place to hang this feeder?
Hang in a sheltered spot, ideally near shrubs or hedges that provide birds with cover and an escape route, but away from walls and fences that squirrels can jump from. A dedicated feeding station gives the best results. Place at a height of at least 1.5m from the ground to keep feeding birds safe from cats.
