Gro-Sure Round Fibre Pots are biodegradable propagation pots made from peat-free wood pulp — ideal for starting seeds, seedlings, and cuttings with minimal root disturbance. When your plants are ready to go outside, simply plant the pot straight into the ground: the fibres break down naturally in the soil, allowing roots to grow through without any disruption to the plant.
Ideal for use on a windowsill, in a greenhouse, or on a propagation bench, these 8cm round pots are a great size for growing on young plants from seedlings to transplant-ready plugs. The 48-pot pack gives you plenty of capacity for a full season of seed sowing, cutting propagation, or pricking out. They can also be used as replacement pots in the Gro-Sure Growing Tray with 18 Round Pots or Growing Tray with 40 Round Pots.
As the pots are made from natural wood pulp with no peat, they are an environmentally responsible choice for the propagation bench. They naturally regulate moisture around the root zone, helping prevent both waterlogging and drying out.
Do I need to remove the pot before planting out?
No — that's the key benefit of fibre pots. Simply plant the entire pot into the ground or into a larger container. The wood pulp fibres will biodegrade naturally in the soil within a few weeks, allowing the roots to grow through without any disturbance to the plant.
What size plants are 8cm fibre pots suitable for?
The 8cm size is ideal for growing on seedlings and cuttings from a small plug stage up to transplant-ready size. They suit most vegetables, bedding plants, herbs, and perennials. For very large plants or those needing a long growing-on period, you may wish to pot on into a larger container before planting out.
Can I reuse fibre pots?
No — fibre pots are single-use by design. Once used for a growing cycle they will have absorbed moisture and begun to break down, which is exactly as intended. Their single-use nature is offset by the fact they are biodegradable and peat-free.
Will the pots fall apart before I'm ready to plant out?
Fibre pots are designed to remain structurally sound during normal growing periods of 4–8 weeks. If you need to keep plants in them for longer, ensure they are kept in a tray to support the base and avoid overwatering, which accelerates breakdown.
Are these compatible with Gro-Sure growing trays?
Yes. The 8cm round pots are designed as replacements for the Gro-Sure Growing Tray with 18 Round Pots and Growing Tray with 40 Round Pots, both available separately.
