Brimming with suet, cereal and seed, these no-nets fat snax from Gardman give garden birds a rich source of energy throughout the year. The mesh-free format makes them safer for birds and easier for you to handle, with no tangled mesh to discard. Suitable for use in fat snax feeders, on bird tables and for ground feeding, the six-pack format is ideal for keeping a regular supply in the shed.
Open the packaging and place the fat snax into a suitable fat snax feeder, on a bird table, or directly on a ground-feeding tray. Position near cover such as a hedge or shrub so birds can retreat quickly from predators, and site away from windows to reduce collision risk. Top up as the snax are eaten and replace any that become wet or mouldy.
Are these suitable for year-round feeding?
Yes. The high-energy mix of suet, cereal and seed makes them a useful energy boost in winter, whilst birds also enjoy them during the breeding season and the rest of the year.
Why no nets?
Mesh netting can trap feet, beaks and tongues, particularly for smaller birds. Removing the net makes the fat snax safer to feed from and easier for you to handle without leaving discarded mesh in the garden.
Which birds will eat them?
Common visitors include robins, blue tits, great tits, coal tits, dunnocks, house sparrows, chaffinches, blackbirds and starlings. Squirrels and larger birds may also help themselves.
Where should I put them?
In a fat snax feeder for the cleanest feed, on a bird table, or scattered on a ground-feeding tray. Position near low cover so birds can escape predators, and away from glass to reduce window collisions.
How long do they keep?
Unopened, the fat snax will store for many months in a cool, dry place. Once on a feeder or table, replace any that become wet, soft or mouldy.
Are they suitable for ground feeding?
Yes - placing the fat snax on a ground-feeding tray or low table is a good way to attract ground-feeding species such as dunnocks, robins and blackbirds.
