Erewash In Bloom Finals Judging
Friday 10th August 2007
The final judging took place for the Erewash
in Bloom Gardening Competition last week on
one of the few glorious summer days we have
seen this year. The eight judges were
overwhelmed by the high standard of the entries.
One of the judges, Lynne Thorpe our very own
Plant Area Manager, commented “It was
wonderful to see such a wide variety of entries…the vast spectrum of styles and designs were truly magnificent. The high level of all entries made it very difficult for the judges to choose the winners.”
The judges spent the day visiting the gardens that had reached the final stages
of the competition in the following categories:
- Best small/medium rear garden
- Best large rear garden
- Best front garden
- Best hanging baskets
- Best environmental garden
The winning entries will be announced at the Erewash in Bloom Gardening Competition presentation on 20th September 2007. Please revisit this site then to see who the overall winners were.

Trowell Sponsor Erewash in Bloom
Last week saw the official launch of this year's
Erewash in Bloom Gardening Competition in
Ilkeston and Long Eaton. Representatives
from Trowell garden centre joined members of
the Erewash in Bloom team to promote the
event to the public. Information on how to
enter the competition was distributed along
with packets of sunflower seeds and vouchers for Trowell Garden Centre. Information on recycling and environmental issues was also freely available. The mayor attended to officially launch the competition and stayed to help with the promotion of it. David Henshaw (primary sponsor) of Trowell Garden Centre was delighted by the reaction of the general public and commented 'We are both pleased and honoured to be sponsoring the Erewash in Bloom Gardening Competition 2007. We are always searching for new initiatives to encourage the gardeners of today and of the future and we believe that this competition is an ideal opportunity to do so.'

If you require details as to how to enter the competition please click here

beautiful borders or wonderful water features,
why not enter this years Erewash in Bloom
gardening competition?
Trowell are proud to be sponsoring the Erewash
in Bloom gardening competition 2007, and we are
hoping it will be the best yet. There is up to £1,000 worth of garden centre vouchers up for grabs for the winners and runners up.
This popular gardening competition gets individuals, communities, schools and
businesses involved in gardening and horticulture. It encourages residents to
take a pride in their local environment by producing and tending to beautiful
gardens and floral features.
The competition forms part of the Pride in Erewash campaign, a project that
was launched last year to encourage residents of the Borough to take a pride
in their local environment and help improve community cohesion.

This year's competition will be launched on the following dates:-
Thursday 17 May 2007 - 10am to 2pm - Ilkeston Town Centre
(Near McDonalds)
Friday 18 May 2007 - 10am to 2pm - Long Eaton Town Centre
(Old Market Place)
Erewash residents will be able to pick up an application form for the
competition at either of these launches or alternatively to download a pdf
version click here. There will also be 1,000 packets of Sunflower seeds and
balloons given away to children to encourage them to enter the tallest
Sunflower category.
The Mayor of Erewash will be attending both towns between 11am and 12noon.
As part of the event there will also be displays on composting and recycling.
Trevor Holden, Director of Neighbourhood Services at Erewash Borough
Council, said: 'We hope that this summer we can build on the success of
last year's competition, which following it's re-launch saw a 50% rise in
the number of entrants. This made it the most successful competition
ever and one of the best in the region. But I think this year we can do
even better, so dust off your trowels and get your planters at the ready
for another fantastic Erewash in Bloom!"
